Derwent Lees 1884-1931 Australian / British, study of Creech Heath, Dorset circa 1911, inscribed Lees, oil on canvas, 50cm x 70cm, and signed indistinctly bottom right.

This painting will appear in the Derwent Lees catalogue raisonné written by Lynn Davis and to be published by Lund Humphries in September this year.  Lees painted numerous pictures in Dorset including ‘The Blue Pool, Dorset,’ (1911) which is held by the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull, ‘Lyndra by the Blue Pool, Dorset,’ (1913) held by the Art Gallery of South Australia and ‘Dorset Scene,’ which was exhibited posthumously at the Venice Biennale in the British Pavilion in 1936.
